God and Country

This will be the first time we're ordering our Thanksgiving turkey from Whole Foods Markets. We're usually barking up a few different trees in the weeks before the holiday trying to figure out where we're going to get our turkey. Do we want it order it from a local farm? Should it be an organic turkey or are we okay with a run of the mill garden variety bird straight off the shelves? I'm always concerned that the damn thing might be plumped up with brine or otherwise sullied and maybe not fit for human consumption. We definitely don't want a frozen bird.

These last two or three Thanksgivings we've picked up our bird from Trader Joe's. I think last year they had nothing but 15 pounders and none were an ounce less. How do they do that? We wanted a maybe 10 to 12 pounder but we had to suck it up and get the big bird or maybe have no bird at all. I froze as much of it as I could after all was said and done and eventually threw away the left-over frozen turkey after it sat in your freezer for some 6-8 months. I suppose I could have made a soup or a fricassee of some kind. Turkey and rice soup? Maybe.

I always have a bit of anxiety when the day comes to go pick up the turkey that we ordered. Will pickings be slim because I waited too long in the day to go pick up the bird? Will I end up with the runt of the litter because there was a run on the available birds thanks to news reports about either the scarcity of maybe the high price of turkeys this season? We've already been told to expect to pay more for our turkeys this Thanksgiving thanks to Joe Biden's runaway inflation so there's that. I long for the days when frozen Butterballs went for 29 cents a pound (not really.)

Like everything else that Amazon does, and by extension Whole Foods since Amazon owns Whole Foods, the process of ordering a holiday turkey and all of the accessories has been easy peasy. They put out a wonderful catalogue with all of their offerings and we had options up the wazoo. We could order a complete meal for party's of any size or we could order our items ala carte. I started out thinking that we'd order a complete meal for a change. Then, the thought of having to re-heat the turkey made me wonder if the bird might be a little less succulent or somehow less appealing to the eye if we went that route.

Finally, I decided that one of the things that I love about Thanksgiving is the smell you get in the house after roasting a turkey in the oven for the better part of four hours. That clinched the deal for me. We ordered a nice organic turkey, some butttery rolls, a pan of stuffing, and some other little cranberry crispy things that the missus thought we might enjoy. We plan to make everything else, including pies, deviled eggs and mashed potatoes, here at home. After placing our order online, we received an e-mail reply with instructions on how and when to pick up our items at the store. Like I said, easy peasy.

I'm listening to this progressive radio station on Sirius this morning and they are absolutely salivating at the thought of January 6th rioters, you may know them as the "insurrectionists", being put in jail. What is it about the leftists that they find so captivating, no pun intended, about putting people in jail. Not just any people, mind you, but god fearing conservatives or just republicans for that matter. They are cheering from the sidelines as these so-called rioters are stripped of their rights on everything from being able to own a gun to losing their right to vote. Don't kid yourself. That's one less vote or more for Donald Trump in 2024. This is how they win.

The Department of Justice can't arrest people fast enough for the leftists currently in charge in our nations capitol. Whether it's the rioters from January 6th, or maybe iconic warriors like Steve Bannon who ignore subpoenas from the January 6th Committee, the lefty's want them all in jail. This is their idea of exercising political power. One can easily imagine just how Stalin got away with it as you listen to these loons carrying on like this form of justice is normal. It's hilarious when you think about out how Trump was accused time and time again by the leftist mob of perverting our constitutional norms by following the letter of the law. "Hilarious" might be the wrong word.

Do you think we'll get a verdict today in the Rittenhouse trial? Will the leftist radicals riot in the streets if the jury returns a verdict of "not guilty" on all 5 counts? You just can't figure out where these types of things are going especially when a jury is involved. If I had to guess, I would think that they could come back with a hung jury. That is to say, there will be no consensus. The only reason I think that is that the instructions to the jury were very confusing. I listened very carefully to the judge as he gave them the instructions and I had a difficult time following his logic.

Today is the first full day that the jury is out for deliberation so I guess we'll see. If they come back quickly I would think that would be a good sign for the defense. The national guard has been put on full alert in Kenosha in the event that the leftists decide that they don't like the verdict for whatever reason. Make no mistake about it. These leftists planning to riot are effectively brownshirts doing the democrats bidding. How dare a vigilante like Kyle Rittenhouse rise up like a patriot and challenge their right to ravage whatever they damn well please whenever they damn well please. It's simply unacceptable.

If Rittenhouse is found innocent of the charges I hope he and every god fearing American patriot take to the streets of every city coast to coast and celebrate the return of the American patriot. Kyle will be the toast of the town and as well he should be. He stood up to the tyranny and turmoil of the left while his fellow patriots said nothing and offered little to no support while their cities were brought to their knees by these leftists thugs from Antifa and Black Lives Matters.

Our rights to self defense and our rights as citizens to take back our streets will be restored with a "not guilty" verdict. We will, hopefully, have Kyle Rittenhouse to thank for that. He bore the brunt and the slings and arrows of left so that all Americans might see what becomes of our justice system when it works as designed by our Founding Fathers. The message will be clear: It's okay to stand up for what you believe in America. It's okay to fight back against anything and everything we see as antithetical to our way of life here in America. Here's the bottom line: America is worth fighting for. America is worth dying for.

We need more, not fewer Kyle Rittenhouses. I'm not sure we need them accessorized with AR-15's but the ends do justify the means when all else fails. If it helps to save lives then that's what you do. It's all about God and country. Speaking of God and country, what the heck is going on with the Rittenhouse trial? This will be day number three of their deliberations. It should have taken them hours, not days to reach an "innocent of all charges" finding. And, what is this we're hearing about a video shared with the defense team by the prosecution that was somehow of lesser quality? We now have grounds for maybe three mistrials which the judge has yet to rule on. What's he waiting for?

I'm making progress with my chores around the house in preparation for the upcoming winter season. It's slow, but it's moving along. If I can look out at least one window in my home and see where I've raked something up or put something away for the winter then I think I'll have accomplished something. I do wish I had a cord of wood as a back-up in the event we have a cataclysmic event of sorts that sends the price of oil through the roof but I don't. I'm not sure why I didn't think of this sooner. I'm reading this morning about bumbling Joe Biden selling off our country's petroleum reserve to Asia. What the fuck? Closing down our country's oil pipelines wasn't enough?

Biden had the audacity to go to some trucking company in our country where he is on video smoking the tires and doing doughnuts in an electric truck. It's a fucking clown show! In case you wondered why Biden is shutting down our oil pipelines and driving up the price of gasoline and heating oil, it's all by design. I guess we're all supposed to be going out and buying electric cars and trucks now since only the wealthiest in our society can afford gasoline at the pump. Thanks to Biden, we are well on our way to a zero emissions environment. What's next? Cows? Burger joints? Methane is a killer. No? We can't get rid of these assholes fast enough.

It seemed like we were well on our way to facing vaccine mandates in the private sector at least as of a week go or so. It's one thing to mandate it for federal workers since it seems Biden has the authority to do that. It's quite another to try and mandate what we do with vaccines in the private sector. The courts agreed with the states that took Biden to court so the issue of vaccine mandates is currently not being pursued by OSHA. If it gets to the Supremes, I would hope that it would be a 9-0 win for life and liberty. It's judicial overreach any way you slice it.

I'm especially pleased with what our state is doing here in the Northeast as it relates to vaccine mandates. They seem to be on track to banning vaccine mandates by private companies. We're in good company with a number of other states who are putting similar legislation on the books. It takes a certain amount of courage to fight back against the rising tide of mandating this and that as it relates to Covid so I'm glad to see our governor and our attorney general rising to the occasion on behalf of their constituents. We're surrounded on all sides by liberal states who are doing just the opposite.

Speaking of rising tides, I went shopping for some sort of seafood the other night for dinner. I knew that the price of lobster has been going through the roof and that's been ongoing for the better part of the summer. Lobster wasn't on the menu anyway so it didn't much matter how much they were charging for it since I wasn't in the mood for lobster.

I thought a nice piece of whitefish or maybe scallops would do so that's what I had in mind when I set foot in my local seafood store. I was more than a little surprised to see that the price of local Maine bay scallops was $42 a pound. The sea scallops, which are larger and meatier, were $29 a pound. A few months back, you could buy them for $20 a pound. The price of fuel alone probably has a lot to do with the increase in price. Just wow.

I did a little comparison shopping at Whole Foods and found their prices to being line with my local store. I was feeling a little desperate at that point since I needed something to go with our roasted vegetables and meatloaf wasn't going to cut the mustard. Truth be told, the missus doesn't do meatloaf. I rationalized that we don't have seafood all that often, not because it's too expensive, but because it's not recommended that you have seafood more than twice a week.

You know, mercury, and all the other things that go bump in the night. Well, in this case, glow in the dark might be a more appropriate description. It didn't make me feel any better that the description on the tag read "previously frozen" but I figured that these scallops had come a long way and they might not have made the trip had they not been flash frozen. That's me rationalizing again. Hell, I can buy frozen seafood at Walmart for one quarter the price. It's all about trust.

Friday has finally arrived and the Rittenhouse jury is still out. The leftist network, MSNBC, was banned from the court room by the presiding judge after they tasked one of their employees with following the van that carries the jurists to and from the courthouse. What the hell were they thinking? I think the tipoff came after the car ran a red light while in pursuit of the van. What were their intentions, exactly?

There is no doubt that it was an obvious attempt to intimidate the jurists. Beyond that, was the MSNBC employee looking to follow one or more jurists to their home? Were they planning to tip off the Black Lives Matter and Antifa sorts as to where they might find one or more jurists if they were to return the wrong verdict? I tuned in the network briefly to see if there might be a mea culpa offered up by the network and I wasn't surprised that no one, and I mean no one, was even broaching they subject. This is who they are. This is what they do.

I need to start thinking about what I might like to buy come Black Friday. I need a couple of computer related things like chargers, etc, so maybe I'll get a list going. Hell, I think I still need things at the store for Thanksgiving. I was happy to see that the missus picked up a pie crust at Walmart yesterday and that's one less thing for me to have to buy. I don't do food shopping at Walmart for the most part but I can''t get too excited about the missus picking something up in the refrigerated section. It's just not that big of a deal.

I've had it in the back of my mind to get an oil change for Evan's "new" car. I keep looking at the dipstick to see if there is an obvious color change that comes with time behind the wheel. It's not yet turned dark but he's put some 3,000 miles or so on the car so I figured that I might as well do it since he was over for a visit and I had the time. I've been trying to figure out since he got his car as to what kind of oil the car uses. Is it synthetic? Is it non-synthetic? Is it a synthetic blend? I thought I had figured out that it was a blend so I that information on the tip of my tongue as I drove the car into the stall at the local Valvoline. It turns out that the car uses synthetic. Synthetic it is.

I've had other vehicles in for an oil change using synthetic oil and it came to roughly $80. So, when they told me that it was going to cost $124, I was a little surprised. Not so surprised that I wasn't willing to get my oil changed but surprised nonetheless. Besides, would it have been less expensive if I went some place else to get it changed? Where else would I go? Is this part and parcel of the inflation picture that we've been hearing so much about? I brought a coupon worth $14 so after factoring that into the equation, I was good to go with the oil change. I would imagine that sticker shock is here, there, and everywhere these days. Why should it be any different at Valvoline?

I knew this leaf clean-up job this year was going to be a big one and I wasn't wrong. The foliage seemed heavier than usual no matter where you looked over the course of the summer. I knew I'd be doing my raking in installments if I did any raking at all. When the leaves got knee-deep on our lawn, I raked up what I could while waiting for the remaining leaves to come down off the trees. The weather has been cooperating so that has been helpful. It's so much easier when the leaves aren't wet and matted to the ground so you wait, you wait some more, and then get to the job at hand when the leaves are dry and blowing about in a helter skelter pattern with every breeze that blows in.

I'm not anal about having a pristine lawn free of every last leaf come hell or high water but I do want, and do insist on, some semblance of orderliness when it comes to lawns and leaves especially in the days and weeks leading up to the first snowfall. I'm probably not all that different from Mr G, may god rest his soul, who liked and maybe even demanded a certain orderliness when it came to this, that, and the other thing. It was most obvious when you looked inside his garage where everything had its place and nothing was out of place. You could literally eat off of his garage floor. It was that clean.

But, I digress. Did I mention that they acquitted Kyle Rittenhouse on all five charges? YES! The left isn't happy with the verdict but fuck the left. This was the right call. Not sure what took them so long but deliberations can, I suspect, be a dirty business. Kyle stood while they read the findings and broke down only after the final verdict was read. The fella was facing life in prison for chrissakes so you can imagine his relief. Man, was that the right call putting him on the stand. He helped his own case in ways that are hard to quantify. He came across as a righteous young man who only wanted the best for his community and he was rewarded by a jury of his peers. They saw what we saw and it was all good.

The leftists raged and whined in the evening talking head shows and it was a delicious thing to watch. Many of them had to admit that the jury did its job even though they didn't approve of the verdict. That's fine. You're entitled to your opinion but you're not entitled to your facts. They felt that letting him off means that every Tom, Dick, and Harry can now carry an AR-15 into a situation where they put themselves and their lives at risk just so they can rattle off a few rounds and take a handful of lives and not face any consequences.

More irritating were the real psychos who said that had Kyle Rittenhouse been black the outcome would have been more dire. I hate it when people make those kinds of assertions. You can neither approve nor disprove them.

The Proud Boys may be standing watch at the Rittenhouse homestead this evening just to make sure that Kyle doesn't find himself fighting off one or more people who were unhappy or maybe apoplectic with the final verdict. There are a lot of nut jobs out there who would be just as happy to deliver their own justice in lieu of a verdict they weren't happy hearing.

I also hope the constabulary doesn't waste a Wisconsin minute before returning Kyle's AR-15. He may need it. I'm hearing that Tucker Carlson is planing to have him on for an interview on Monday night so I'm looking forward to that. Not because I think he has a lot of wisdom to impart but rather to simply take my own measure of Kyle Rittenhouse the man. I'm already a fanboy so there's that.
